Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2017

Hello everyone! It's been a hot minute since I wrote on this Blog! I just wanted to come on and tell everybody, Happy Mother's Day! Today my brother treated my mom and I to a wonderful buffet lunch and dessert at a beautiful Italian restaurant and we were able to eat outside in the wonderful spring weather! I also spent some time with my grandmother whom I haven't seen in awhile to wish her a wonderful day as well. The video below is from Mother's Day last year (2016) and in the video I discuss honoring my mother and what we did to celebrate last year (went out to lunch for Mexican). I never shared the video last year so decided I'd pop on and share it today. Hope you had a wonderful day today and every day! Enjoy! Honoring Women in My Past: My preschool teacher

My preschool teacher Ms. B was an amazing lady. I don't remember so much about her, but she instilled a love of learning in me that would last a lifetime! Now that I have taught early childhood education myself, I know how important a preschool teacher can really be to a child. These teachers have a huge role in the way children approach learning from an early age. I know her job couldn't have been easy either especially when it came time to teach my brother.

Here is a short video I did in May 2016 sharing some thoughts about this teacher:

Women in my Past

March is Women's History month. During the month of March, I am going to try to blog some about Women's History and women in my history. I am going to start this off by talking about some women in my past. First, I would like to mention my Grandma Campbell. She was definitely an important woman of my past. She used to do things with my brother and I when we were growing up. My parents relied on her for child care during the summer and also some when they had things to do. I also went to her house after school during my ninth grade year so I wouldn't have to go home and be alone. She would cook for us and teach us. She also helped me with homework the year I went to her house after school. She was like a second mother to us. She also LOVED history and I think her love of history was passed on to me. I think she would appreciate that I wanted to share some about Women's History with my readers. Second, I would like to mention that I have had some influential female teachers in my school career. These women brought me to be the teacher that I am today. Some of them definitely stick out in my mind. Teachers from my preschool teacher to my post graduate college professor. I will not mention their names in this post, but I will say that I am thankful to these women and I value their commitment to the profession of teaching as I know how rewarding and difficult being a teacher can be being that I am now a teacher myself. Below is a video I did last May (May 2016) sharing about these influential women in my life.

Someone who inspires me---My Grandma, may she rest in peace---#SWMBlogChallenge Day 6

My Grandmother Campbell truly inspires me. She loved history and she was a great role model. She was a big influence on my life growing up and I will always remember the impact she made on my life. She doesn't have a special story, she was just her, but she did do wonderful things with her life and raised four children and five grandchildren. She was a major part of all of our lives and took us as her grandchildren on boy scout trips (my cousin), on day trips (my brother and I), and she was always there when any one of us needed her. My brother and I spent many summer days at her house growing up and I spent my ninth grade year going to her house after school every day. I can only hope to be the kind of mother and grandmother she was one day. Here is a video I did back in May for the PeriGirls PGHonor initiative "Honoring the Women in Our Lives" where I talked about this grandmother.

Memories of my Childhood and my Dad in Honor of Father's Day 2016

First of all I have to say, "How is it June already?" This year has truly flown by and I cannot believe we start July at the end of next week. Now onto the topic of this post. Father's Day was last Sunday. My family gathered at my parents house and we had a lovely late lunch/early dinner thanks to my mom. We spent quality time with my Dad and had a wonderful day. My Dad has always been there and I know that as long as he is living I can count on him and my mom. I could go on and on when it comes to memories but for this post I am going to share two videos from my Periscope account and briefly summarize those two memories for you. I hope everyone had a wonderful day with their own families and that you enjoy these stories from my childhood.

My Dad and Hunting:

My dad took me hunting when I was younger. I never went deer hunting with a gun myself, but I did tag along many of times. My dad still enjoys bow hunting for deer and will probably hunt until the day he dies. Hunting is just something I have grown up around so I will never think it to be a bad thing, but I will say there is a difference in the hunter that hunts to eat and the hunter that hunts to kill. My dad enjoys fresh deer meat and when he kills something someone ends up eating it and it isn't just left or thrown away. In the following video I share a quick hunting story from one of my trips with my dad when he killed a 10 point Whitetail Deer.

My Dad Rescues Us From a Snake:

Isn't that one thing men are for? To save us women from creepy crawlies? Lol. As I said in the video, most creepy crawlies I will take care of myself, but sometimes it is still nice to have help. In the following video I share a story about how my dad saved us from a Copperhead snake that had gotten into our house. Luckily nobody was harmed except the snake.

Like I said above there are many memories of my dad that I could share but these were the two that came to mind for the Periscope PeriGirls PGHonor week honoring Dads and Grads. PeriGirls is a community of women that use the app Periscope that support each other on the app. If you are a woman on Periscope, you can join us at www.PeriGirls.com.
